NeonPiss

NEON PISS 'demo'

Amazing five song demo by this newer band from the Bay Area. I believe it's from 2010 and they haven't done anything since, I hope that changes. The songs are in the same vein as Red Dons, No Hope For The Kids, etc, etc.

One of the best demo's out in years.

And my cover is different than all the other covers I've seen. Hmm....

Left Field Sundays (pt 99)

AMES SANGLANTES 'L'Existence Des Existences'

Ames Sanglantes (Bloodies Soul/Bleeding Soul) is the main project of Pierre-Marc Tremblay, the genius behind Contrepoison and one of the two guys in AKITSA. Ames Sanglantes is his noise/industrial project with quite the extensive catalog of releases, splits, e.p.'s, etc.

L'Existence Des Existence is a newer release from 2011. It has two songs. The first is drone-ish industrial. The second song is by far my favorite of the two. It builds for a while and unleashes on the listener a sense of might, a sense of power, will & control. It is one of the most impassioned and powerful songs I've heard in a while. The second song spoke to me most, but both are good as the musician responsible is quite adept at building a foundation of emotions in his music. Really pretty genius. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Also, note that the first song doesn't really start for about a minute, thats the way the song is supposed to be.

Did I mention the brains behind AKITSA & Contrepoison?????

WAR IN HUDIKSVALL?

KRIG I HUDIK 'S/T' E.P.

This is a project band of sorts. It's Rolf Revolt of Missbrukarna & members of Totalitar including Poffen on vocals (and whatever he touches turns to gold). This is these guys doing Rolf's songs from the 70's & 80's that weren't ever recorded, some Missbrukarna, (Pre Missbrukarna band) The Turfs, and more including two originals, which could be the best two on here. They did another e.p. after this that I have not heard but sure is just as great. Do yourself a favor, get this shit.

Angry Songs

Peace punker's Omega Tribe and their debut release on CRASS Records, the 1982 Angry Songs e.p..
4 songs of melodic, protestant punk that fit right in with the Crass scene and their many bands. They did an LP a year later and another e.p. a year after that, but this, to me, is the pinnacle of their career. Though they did have some gems on their other vinyls. Notably the song Duty Calls on the No Love Lost LP.

Not just another Cover band pt2

PERDITION 'Covers Cassette'

Just like that Nerveskade tape I posted some time ago, Perdition recently put this out (for a tour I believe) which finds them covering 4 different Punk bands. 2 American (incl. Brooklyn's Absurd System), 2 Scandinavian. Not much else to say about this tape. It's fuckin distorted as fuck. Love it!!

Left Field Sundays (pt 98)

Throbbing Gristle '20 Jazz Funk Greats'

Industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle and their only all-studio LP, 20 Jazz Funk Greats, from 1979. Throbbing Gristle released a gang of live recordings, a few studios, then broke up and splintered into more well known acts. Genesis P-Orridge of course went on to form Psychic TV, along with Sleazy Christopherson. Sleazy later formed COIL. Cosey Fanni Tutti and Chris Carter went on to form Chris & Cosey.

The music is, of course, not jazz nor funk, but industrial anti-art. But at times it also gets poppy, at other times proggy. The songs do feel a bit dated, but it's such a classic that it's easily overlooked.

The LP cover shows them all smiles, on a plush landscape, masking it's true self. The location is Beachy Head, on the south coast of England, and is one of the world's most notorious suicide hot spots.

Final Urge To March

GRAND MOOD 'Final Urge To March' Cassette

The latest release on the always good CW Productions, which is home to Furdidurke, Cirrhus, Kestrel, Taut, Eunuch, and Bilirubin. CW Productions is the label of the cat from Furdidurke. So, ya kinda know what's in store if ya know any of those bands.

Grand Mood play raw Black Metal similar to Furdidurke. Simple riffs, almost punk in structure, it pummels along and at the most perfect times gets melodious yet all the while retaining that Raw BM sound, and the vocals are pained and the lyrics are intelligent. All in all making a fantastic release. This is Black Metal that sticks with ya, that ya keep thinking about when your away, it draws one back to it. Fantastic!

Also, when I bought this at Heaven Street Records (great store in bushwick), the fella who sold in to me, if I heard him right, said Grand Mood was the guy from Furdidurke, but he couldve been talking about the label. Anyone know for sure?

LOST

LOST TRIBE 'S/T'

The newest Lost Tribe. Absolutely brilliant. Members of Syndrome, Aghast, Caves Caverns and Empty Graves. They play a brooding style of post-punk/peace punk, kinda like a bastard child of Rubella Ballet, The Mob & Killing Joke with a love affair with Amebix' ballads. It is really, really fuckin good. I posted their demo a while back, ya can get that here.
You can still buy this record, at Blind Prophet Records.
So, if ya been digging on DeathCharge's new LP, Anasazi, Blue Cross, Cult of Youth, Blessure Grave, and such stuff, you'll prolly dig this.

NEUTRON WARHEAD

NEUTRON RATS/ANAL WARHEAD 'Split' Cassette

Brendan, of Neutron Rats & a friend of NBSF, just sent me this split with Anal Warhead. Neutron Rats deliver two tracks of 84-esque Hardcore Punk and Anal Warhead churn out 4 scorchers including a Jerrys Kids song that they douse in gas and light a torch to. Both are from Albany, NY where there's evidently quite the burgeoining scene, as is documented on Terminal Escape.

Of both bands, I think I like Neutron Rats a tad more, but together this tape just kills, they both kill it. I believe that they even share members. You can get the Neutron Rats demo on my buddy Conner's blog, here. You can get Anal Warhead's demo on above Terminal Escape link. Anal Warhead has also released a few 7"ers and Neutron Rats has an e.p. thats out soon. All available through Albany label, LOUD PUNK RECORDS.

ATTAK

ATTAK 'Today's Generation' e.p.

Just got off work from doing a double, 17 hours straight of serving total morons booze all day n night, so this post will be short n sweet.

Great little 3 song e.p. by this UK82 act. The were from the same town as BLITZ and you can hear it, it's very similar to BLITZ.
They did this e.p., another 7, and an LP. They were also on a few comps including 'A Country Fit For Heroes'.

METAL MONDAY (pt. 90)

VOOR 'Evil Metal'

1984 four song demo by this criminally underrated Quebecois Metal band. They did a 4 song demo before this that had some of the same songs, then this, then called it a day. They obviously worshipped at the alter of all things VENOM as ya can hear it in their sound and on their 1st demo they covered them. One could even say a poor-mans VENOM (Band name starts with a V, they have a Venom-esque skull, Evil Metal, etc etc). The production isn't as good as VENOM would eventually get, but that's where the charm lies. VENOM=BLACK METAL as to VOOR=EVIL METAL.

Nuclear War Now records recently re-released both demos onto one CD.

Left Field Sundays (pt 97)

GROUP HEX 'These Are The Nights/Waiting Room' 7"

Group Hex is one of Tobias Grave's bands. He is the genius behind Blessure Grave and Soft Kill. Every thing this guy touches turns to gold. Group Hex also features Shiloh Alia also from Soft Kill. These guys are seriously making some of the best music these days, they can do no wrong.

Musically these 2 songs are darker than the stuff they do in Soft Kill, more dismal. The music is more Electronic than the dark tunes of Blessure Grave. The song These are the Nights is kinda like New Order with Ian Curtis singing. Waiting Room is more similar to Blessure Grave stuff.

And just to put an exclamation point on it, these 2 songs are fuckin amazing!

TRTRKMMR

TRTRKMMR 'Random Tracks'
TRTRKMMR and some tracks taken from MySpace a few years ago. I found this on the blog Sorting Things Out With A Shotgun.
I know little about TRTRKMMR. They are from Milwaukee and have released a split cassette with Husere Grav and a split LP with Dead Times (whove made an appearance here at NBSF). The music is quickly becoming some of my favorite. Blackened Noise or Power Electronic Black Metal. It is so fuckin Noisey, and it's definitely blackened, and just viscerally one can hear Black Metal. If Black Metal isn't a look or a sound, but rather a feeling, then TRTRKMMR is most definitely Black Metal. What ever it is I fuckin love it!! They even rape a Bathory song on here.

You can get the Husare Grav split on Terminal Escape, here.

MundoSkadeNervesMuerto

Nerveskade/Mundo Muerto '2009 Tour Tape'

Not that much really to say about this. 2 great bands splitting time on a cassette for their 09 US tour. PDX's Nerveskade does 4 songs, LA's Mundo Muerto does 3. It really doesn't get much Punker than this lil fucker gets.

SQUAT OR ROT

Ralphy Boy's, of Dissasociate by way of Jesus Chrust, label Squat Or Rot did 3 different 7" comps between 1989 and 1991 that all were accompanied by a zine, and released a few e.p.s by bands like Suicidal Supermarket Trolleys, some Jesus Chrust splits and a few more.

Of all the Squat Or Rot comps, this one, vol 2 is by far my favorite. It features 5 NY bands, Insurgence, Malachi Krunch, Jesus Chrust, Yuppicide, and The Apostates all doing a song a piece.

The gem on here is the Insurgence song. Some said Insurgence was the poor-mans Nausea, but though the sound is similar, I disagree. Insurgence featured Alicia Morgan of the Crusty Doom band 13 and later Electric Wizard. Insurgence played for a few years between 89 and 91 (roughly). Unfortunately, they didn't put anything out and I think this is the only recorded song by them. It also happens to be one of my all-time favorite Crust songs ever!!!!

Malachi Krunch is gruff Hardcore that featured Jim Martin who went on to sing in the underrated NY band BROKEN (who are presently alive and kicking). He also was the roadie for Nausea's Euro tour.

Jesus Chrust, again, was my boy RalphyBoy's band in the late 80's/early 90's that was a cross between DOOM (the band) and maybe early Grind. Second best song on here.

Scene stalwarts Yuppicide also didn't get the recognition they deserved. Kinda sing-a-longy, kinda AOD'ish, and had a sense of humour that ya didn't see that much for the time and place.

And finally, The Apostates, are kinda the odd-man-out here. It features a friend of mine, Mark Sinnis, singing. They play a kind of dreary, post-punk sound. I asked him once how The Apostates ended up on here and if they were in this scene. He said he wasn't (really) a part of the scene (as they lived in Long Island). He now does solo stuff playing 'Cemetary & Western', a goth/country hybrid.

Also, this is my the first record I made into an MP3 with my new software. So, I'm hoping the volume is ok. It is for me at least. So, go fuck yourself.

Controlnation

Stagnation/Control 'Total Noise Core'

Things to do:

1. Talk Conner into writing a 'Best Of...' list for 2011.
2. Make him think it was his idea.
3. Track down everything on that list like the mad man that you are.
4. Ruin my eardrums listening to the madness within these 5 songs and go apeshit bananas.
5. Check myself into Bellevue.

Total Fuckin' NOISECORE!!!

Left Field Sundays (pt 96)

Nature And Organisation 'Beauty Reaps The Blood Of Solitude'

Michael Cashmore's Nature and Organisation and their 1994 LP 'Beauty Reaps The Blood Of Solitude'. Michael Cashmore was one of three regulars in Current 93. He also lent his talents to Douglas P, Nick Cave, Marc Almond and more. Nature and Organisation, besides being a conduit for the brilliant Michael Cashmore, also showcases the skills of Douglas P (DI6), Rose McDowell (Strawberry Switchblade), David Tibet (Current 93) and Steven Stapleton (Current 93) making it somewhat of a supergroup.

The music is neo-folk, but it's not just your average neo-folk, this Lp is absolute genius. It's dark and apocalyptic, yet optimistic. It's ugly and menacing, yet beautiful. This is definitely in my top 5 best neo-folk LPs, close to the top. Pure genius.

Butterfly

A//SOLUTION 'Butterfly Demo'

Since MegaUpload shut down & since MediaFire might go next & cause I just got my Cassette USB thing to work again, I'm gonna just start posting all my favorites, all my rare gems, etc etc.

And nothing is more of a gem or more rare than this. LBC's A//SOLUTION and their 1988 'Butterfly' Demo. And no, this is not the same thing as the Butterfly e.p., though I do feel the songs from that e.p. came from the Butterfly Demo sessions (could be wrong though). 6 songs, 3 songs not on their e.p. or their CD, and 3 songs from the e.p.

So, A//SOLUTION...One of my all time favorite bands (the e.p. was my very first post!). This band, along with the mighty Apocalypse, Glycine Max, and Confrontation, spearheaded the late 80's/early 90's SoCal Crust scene. I moved out to California in the early 90's, so I got to see the tailend of this scene. Fuckin brutal. A//SOLUTION were the crustiest bastards you would ever see. They had 3 singers (one of which, Nedwob, committed suicide in 94 {I think it was 94}), a guitarist, bassist & drummer. The crust they played, I feel, was/is the crustiest music ever made in the U.S.. Passionate, Bass-heavy, 3 fuckin singers (all at different pitches., is that the right word?) and a guitarist that just slayed. They defined the SoCAl Chuuga-Chugga-Wail sound. Really, I'm such a huge fan of these bands, and A//SOLUTION tops the list for me. I can't do this justice. It's a 10 out of 10. In fact, if I recall right, some of the band members went to England and befriended the HellBastard guys, and ya can hear the influence for sure (the RipperCrust-era HellBastard).

Once again, this very well might be the crown jewel of my collection. This thing will be D/L'ed to death. I also have the LOVE Demo that I'll post soon.

And to flog a dead horse, if ya want to start a Crust Punk band, this is your blueprint. Cause like I've said a million times in the past, I feel the term Crust is used erroneously these days, I also feel that there are maybe 5, 6 Crust bands even playing these days. That point is moot, I dunno, but I do know this- A//SOLUTION flys the crust flag high (and it stinks!).

Empty Skulls

Empty Skulls Comp Cassette

1984 cassette from Fartblossom Enterprizes. A big file that I split up per side, Side A & Side B. All American Hardcore bands. This comps an onslaught of Reagan-era angst. The real standouts are, for Side A, CIA, No Mercy, and Impact Unit and Side B is Septic Death, Nardcore band Stalag 13, NOTA, and Real Enemy, which is a great and underrated early Pittsburgh hardcore band. Fartblossom put out a few more releases, most notably Pillsbury Hardcore, and also did an Empty Skulls Part Two.
