Tampere SS

Tampere SS 'Sotaa' e.p.

Classic Finnish Hardcore from 83. A near perfect representation of the sound that was coming out of that region (along with Kaaos and a few more that are escaping me). First rate Finnish Hardcore!

Violence is the Prince of this Blog

Destroyer 666 'Violence Is The Prince Of This World'
Some more D666 for ya! This is their first e.p. (though they did a demo a year earlier) from 1995. More raw than their next few releases as they were just coming into their own and still developing that unique Australian and AntiChrist Destroyer 666 sound we all love. I'm also thinking that this CD is a tad rare these days, so enjoy!!!
Tracks 1-7: Violence is the Prince of this World e.p.
Tracks 8-12: Bonus songs for the CD release. Different versions and so on. Great stuff!!

Peace or Annihilation?

Crucifix 'Dehumanization'

Hands down one of the best Hardcore Punk records ever. Enraged, passionate, and punk to the bone. From 1983. A must have. Essential, essential, essential! 10 out of 10!!!

DEZERTER

Dezerter 'Underground Out Of Poland'

Poland's most famous Punk band. Dezerter recorded this in 1987 and was released on Maximum Rock-n-Roll records. Their are some live tracks on here from a show in 1984 where the attendance was at 20,000! Anyway, a classic 80's hardcore album and the song Szara Rzeczywistosc is a staple in the Polish Underground....

METAL MONDAY (pt. 4 cont.)

NME 'Unholy Death'
Recorded in 85, put out in 86, Unholy Death is a classic 80's metal album. NME, of Tacoma,Washington, were a very influential band, even a fave of Euronymous's. The music-A filthier, chunkier, more blackened version of VENOM.

After this album came out the guitarist/vocalist Kurt Struebing killed his adopted mother with a pair of scissors! He was found guilty of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 12 years. He killed her because he thought he was a robot and he wanted to open her up to see if she was a robot as well. He served 10 of the 12.

In 2005 he drove off a swing bridge and plummeted 60 feet to his death.

Now, are ya sold on NME?????

METAL MONDAY (pt. 4)

Dissection 'Where Dead Angels Lie' e.p.

The mighty Dissection. This is their 'Where Dead Angels Lie' single, with two versions of the title song that are pretty damn similar, a Tormentor cover, a Slayer cover and two more Dissection originals. Only Dissection could cover Slayer and do the song better. Anyway, about the title song-'Where Dead Angels Lie' could very well be the best metal song ever recorded!! Really! Alot of songs invoke mental pictures but this song invokes a mental feeling, an icy feeling, it's such a cold song that you actually need to wear a hoodie while listening to this. Never has their been music thats feels so fucking cold.

Dissection have been a fave of mine for the past 13 years or so and I actually saw Dissection on the 'Storm of the Lights Bane' tour in 97, where they opened for At The Gates and Morbid Angel. I went solely to see Dissection as I didnt know At The Gates then and I'm not a fan of the newer Morbid Angel, and let me just tell ya they did not disappoint! Those guys were the epitome of Metal!! An amazing show and they ended with Where Dead Angels Lie!!!!!

Also, i'll soon post their first two LP's as i have them on loan right now and their not in my ITunes or i might've just posted Storm Of The Lights Bane instead of this. Though this is a fine substitute. If ya don't know this band, ya should! More info on Dissection and the singers suicide-here.
Info on The Temple Of The Black Light-Here.

FINN AMEN

Amen 'Grind The Bastards Down'

Amen's assault on Punk Rock. One of Finlands best from the early 90's and if im not mistaken, Amen were pretty young when they started playing. Great melding of early grind and Scandanavian Hardcore. Thanks to Audrey n Howard for turning me on to this.
Songs 1-21-Paranemia LP (1991)
Songs 22-32-Split with Rytmihairio (1992)

There Is No Justice, Just Us!!!!

Agnostic Front 'Victim In Pain'

Classic and influential album from NYC's finest hardcore band, Agnostic Front. I cant say much about there other albums cause i dont know em, but this one is great from beginning to end, each song a classic! When talking about NYC punk, this is just as essential as Nausea or Reagan Youth (Dave Insurgence era, of course)! Another LP thats HIGHLY recommended!

On a side note, the great thing for me about blogging is that i'm listening to LP's/CD's that i wouldnt normally as i wanna hear what im posting,i.e. i know this record well, but normally would rather listen to something i dont know, so it's nice because im rediscovering new and old classics. Plus i'm learning i REALLY like a certain style aof music that i thought i only liked before, i.e. neo-folk and wall of noise punk, both styles, since doing this blog, have come to realize i love. So, thanks to you for reading my blog!!

just a minor demo tape

MINOR THREAT 'Demo Tape'
Now, i don't know if everyone has this or if no one has it. I really have no clue. I bought it at Virgin Megastore one day when I was bumming around 14th street. Anyway, if ya dont have it, ya should, if ya do have it, well, proceed onwards my friends.
About the music-its all the songs from the s/t LP, but different mixes, so, of course, a must have!!

DISSENSION

Dissension Discography
Dissension from New England (Conn. or Mass.,i forget) were an early 90's crustgrindhardcorepunk band. I think members were in Hail Of Rage, i could be wrong about that though. I like their later stuff best which is the Stagnation 7".
Tracks:1-4 Split 7" w/ The Meat Shits
Tracks:5-12 Sanctioned 7"
Tracks:13-19 Stagnation 7"
(According to Discogs.com, but i'll dig my CD out in the next few days and change it if its not right cause I feel that the first few songs are from a demo!??)

GRAVES AT SEA

Graves At Sea 'Documents Of Grief'

Crushing, crushing, crushing. D/L this and it'll be all you listen to for the next month! This is what happens when ya grow up on a steady diet of crust punk and then play Doom Metal.

This Is No Beast So Fierce, Not Your Blog

This Is Boston, Not L.A.

Essential punk compilation from Boston in the early 80's. A must have.

WALKNUT

Walknut 'Graveforests And Their Shadows'

Russia's Walknut. Members of Temnozor, Forest and Nitberg. Atmospheric. Mesmorizing. Tortured. And, like I said, from Russia. A great album from start to finish.

Lonndom

Lonndom 'Falen Fran Norr'
One of my fave albums of late. Hailing from Sweden ,Lonndom play a strange brew of Folk, Black Metal and Rock and it's really, really good. One of the members is in LIK, who are similar. It's not your everyday generic 'Folk Metal', Lonndom is truely original, inspiring and passionate. Another highly recommended LP.

VIOLENT ARREST

Violent Arrest 'S/T' LP
Violent Arrest from the UK has members of Ripcord, Heresy, Excrement Of War, Can't Decide, Spite, Dumbstruck, Bomb Blast Men, etc etc. Impressive, huh? They sound alot like Spite to me, maybe even late period Ripcord. Anyway, this band has been one of my fave hardcore bands from the past 3 or 4 years. Their old and they are still angrier than ever! This is their debut 12" and their Fear 7". Their is a Jerry's Kids cover, an Anti-System cover and a cover from The Fix. Absolutely love this band!! Raging Punk To The Bone Hardcore.
Cannon Fodder, Bastards and Take the Power Back are all songs that could go on my fave punk song lists!

Book Of The Dead

Depressor 'Book Of The Dead' 2 x 7"

Depressor, one of my all time fave bands. I think they are America's answer to The Almighty Amebix, but that's just me. This is their double 7" from 2005? and it's more metal than crust, unlike their previous e.p.s. Regardless of the paths they followed, this e.p. still fucking kills it!

The packaging to this is bad ass too, its on parchment and vellum paper illustrated with demonic symbols. 666 copies exist! Yea!

MASTER

Master 'Unreleased 85 LP'
Master! Fuckin brutal metal band that recorded this killer record in 85 (which didnt see the light of day until 2003)!! This shit should rank up there with the Repulsion LP, Morbid Angel 'Altars...', Death 'Scream...', and all the other classics of this genre. Great LP that thankfully is now amongst us.

BOLT THROWER

Bolt Thrower 'The Peel Sessions'
What can be said about the mighty Bolt Thrower?

This is the complete Peel Sessions. Tracks 1-4 are with the original singer from In Battle there Is No Law. 5-8 is from the Realms of Chaos era and tracks 9-12 from the Warmaster era. Thats all the BoltThrower era's ya need anyway as they went downhill after Warmaster. BTW- the song Domination is NOT on Realms Of Chaos, i'm not sure if this is the only release its on, but i think so.

Hex Noir

Hex Noir 'Demo 1'
Raw, raw, raw, punk as fuck black metal from the industrial wastelands known as Dayton, Ohio (not 25 miles from where i'm from). This shit is so damn good, soooo damn good! They did this and another demo that i'll soon post and then called it a day. Too bad, cause it's right up my alley. A filthy stew of early Bathory style Black Metal, lo-fi worship and a hatred for production. Recommended!!!!!

SOL

Spear Of Longinus 'Rune:Goetia'
Brisbane, Australia's Spear Of Longinus. Not an easy band to figure out. National Socialist Black Metal (like my fellow blogger over at Cosmic Hearse once wrote-Black Metal is not a nice place!). Yet they are Hinduists. They practice Yoga. The study martial arts. They play Black Metal that is sometimes Burzum like, other times its more Oi! like, then sometimes it's noisy, and at other times its punk. Hmmm...
Anyway, i love this band, not your usual run of the mill bonehead black metal. This e.p. has really grown on my especially as its on their noisy side! NOISY!!!
Post Script-Each song is a letter of the Futhark alphabet.

ASH POOL

Ash Pool 'World Turned On its Hinges'
Highly Recommended Black Metal from NYC. This album is so fucking good! Very raw, very kult, stripped down Black Metal not unlike Bone Awl, but more rhythmic i suppose. The guy who runs the great Hospital Productions and sole member? of Prurient is one of two fellas in this band. I cant stop listening to this and, again, highly recommended!!!

KRUW

Kruw 'The Punx' e.p.

Killer 4 song ep of noisy chaotic Japanese punk rock!
Kuro is a train going North at 45 mph, Confuse is a train going South at 65 mph, Kruw is what happens when the punk explosion of those two trains hit.I'd love to get my hands on more from this band! Anyone?

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Hey Punk, you looking for Trouble? Cause you just found it!

Trouble 'The Skull'
'White Metal' from Trouble. Christian Doom Metal from the states and one of the first doom metal acts at that. Heavily inspired by Judas Priest and Black Sabbath, notably the slower of the songs like 'Lord of this World' and 'Into The Void'. They released two great albums, this and their first, Psalm 9, and by their third record they fizzled out. Anyway, here's their second LP 'The Skull', my fave of the first two. So, enjoy.
Oh, BTW- One of my all time fave bands, Sacrilege (UK), were heavily influenced by Trouble. Kinda makes sense.

METAL MONDAY (pt. 3)

Splatterhouse 'The House That Dead Built'

Portland, Oregon's Splatterhouse....
Featuring members of Lord Gore, Dekapitator, Fall of The Bastards, The Warwolves, Skarp, Aldebaran, Book of Black Earth, Hail, Burning Leather, Samothrace and more. Quite the resume, huh? The music-what you'd expect from a band called Splatterhouse, and they manage to pull it off much better than the throngs of Carcass imitators out there! Good stuff!

THINK I CARE

Think I Care 'S/T' LP
Broootal band from Boston. Their first full length. A bastard child of SSD, Negative Approach, Infest, Breakdown and Agnostic Front. I posted their second LP, Mongrel, a while back.

Sore Throat

Sore Throat 'Disgrace To The Corpse Of Sid'
Ah yes, Sore Throat! The famous 101 song Lp from 1988! Sore Throat were very anti-Commercialism in punk rock often ridiculing Napalm Death, DRI, SOD, and a few more in their songs for 'selling out'.
The album has 11 songs on one side and 90 on the flip. The 11 are more slow, more of a crusty early doom sound, while the 90 song side has songs that overlap, have multiple samples, early incarnation of 'blast beats' and your getting more of an overall sound than actually songs, though they are songs. The CD i have has put the 90 song side all into one track, which is fine cause, like I said, your really just getting a 'sound' from them, which is fucking great, punk as nails and a precursor to NoiseCore!

Anyway, a great album by a great band, fun stuff, loud music, and punk to the bone!

I posted Sore Throats one song LP, under the moniker 'Saw Throat', a while back. The are almost companion pieces to one another. You nshould have both if ya dont already.

Vzaeurvbtre

Vzaeurvbtre Demos
Three demos by this Les Legions Noire entity. It consists of two members, Wlad Drakksteim (Vlad Tepes,Belketre,Moevet,Dzlvarv, and a few more)and Vordb Bathor Ecsed (Seviss, Mogoutre,Vermyapre Kommando,Black Murder, and a few more). I dont know much about this project other than this and each song is its own demo, two over 15 minutes long.
The Demos-
1:Aux Coffins De L'Errance
2:Halte Funebre Et Melancholique Au Sommet De Rochers Suplomvant L'Ocean
3:Urvdrem Uatre Uetre

Now, about the music-um, this shit is the creepiest shit i've ever heard! Les Legions Noire is known for its raw kult black metal, but this is something else entirely. Its the soundtrack to a serial killing. A deranged psychopath sits in a pool of blood as he sharpens his cleaver while his victim lies next to him, still alive but eyeless as he spooned them out and he's ready to skin her alive as he hums nursery rhymes and as this is happening, Vzaeurvbtre plays in the background. Its disgusting music. Its creepy. Its disturbing. Its audial evil. Its purgatory recorded. And I love it. You must hear this!!!
Post-More les Legions Noire to come!

Multiple Orgasmatrons!

Satyricon 'Megiddo' e.p.

Man, when i first heard Satyricon it was their Shadowthrone LP i heard and I almost had the same feeling I had when i first heard Rudimentary Peni's Death Church LP. Now, Satyricon (sorry Satyr) gots nothing on R.P., but it was such a new sound, with such passion and intensity and so fuckin demanding of the listener not unlike Death Church. Up until this e.p., they were fuckin amazing. Then they got into TurboNegro or AC/DC or Motorhead or whatever, which is all fine and good, and their music ,for me, went drastically downhill. But, before they did, they released one last e.p., though not Dark Medieval Times or Shadowthrone caliber, that was great, and its this e.p. Megiddo. It's great for their cover of Motorheads Orgasmatron alone!! In fact, thats the sole reason im posting this! Satyricon doing Orgasmatron!!

The tracks:
1-The Dawn Of A New Age (remixed by Apoptygma Berzerk)
2-Night Of Divine Power (Re-recording of The Dark Castle In THe Deep Forest)
3-Forhekset- (Live)
4-Orgasmatron (Motorhead cover yo!!)

(more) NAILBITER

NailBiter split 7"
As promised more of the mighty NailBiter. This is their side of the split 7" with Finlands Viimeinen Kolonna. Unfortunately, i dont have the Viimeinen Kolonna side of this split. Bummer. Anyway, theres two songs of Nailbiter hardcore. They made base in the UK but were from Brazil and Italy, so you could maybe see what they sound like from their geographical histories alone. And as promised i'll soon post the rest of their stuff, their Demo and their (side) of their split with Destruccion.
I posted their classic album, Abused, here with a little info about the band.

Born Dead Icons

Born Dead Icons 'Work'
The Canadian band Born Dead Icons first LP from 2000. Powerful hardcore that sounds, to me, like a cornucopia of His Hero Is Gone/Late 80's Hardcore like Christ On Parade/Motorhead/mid era Gauze/and even a more hardcore Leatherface. Like I said, that's what it sounds like to me. Alot of people like their later stuff better, but this album suitys me just fine. Top notch hardcore punk that shouldnt be missed.

Early 90's SoCal Crust Part Three

Mindrot 'Demo'
SoCal's Mindrot recorded this gem in 1990, easily clumped in with the crust scene down there at the time (due to musical involvements, their lyrics and the brutal music they played), Mindrot had more in common musically with Doom Metal or Death metal. Members were in or went on to be in Dystopia/Confrontation/and Rupture.
Anyway, enjoy!
BTW-I wouldn't necessarily call this crust but they hung out with and played with all the crust bands that were around then and often get bracketed into it anyway.

El Dopa

El Dopa Discography
I've been wanting to post this for a while now and, long story short, just got this El Dopa to play. Anyway, El Dopa. Fucking El Dopa man! Oakland hardcore from the mid to late nineties. Dark, brooding and thought provoking hardcore. A favorite of many a punk rocker.
El Dopa eventually changed their name to 1332, then disbanded, though recently did some reunion shows with the great Christ On Parade!!!
The tracks:
1-12: 1332 LP
13-16: s/t 7"
17-20: Demo 1
21-24: Live @ WFMU
25-26: Demo 2

This discography just came out on Tee Pee records and i went to their website and it looks as if this CD is out of press, so i dont feel too bad about this post. I also bought it at Virgin MegaStore in Manhattan. And, again, a band that needs to be heard regardless!
BTW-This is a big file and i shouldve split it into two, so bear with me.

The Nightcomers

Holocaust 'The Nightcomers'
Recorded in 1981, (this particular) Holocaust hailed from Scotland and was part of the NWOBHM scene. Their are a few albums that i think are just great metal albums and hold up to the test of time. This being one along with Metal Church's first, (most) Rainbow, (most) Maiden, Sabbath, (early) Metallica, etc. In fact Metallica even covered this band at one point (on Garage Days revisited, 'The Small Hours'). I also feel like this has a Johhny Thunders vibe too it.
Good solid early metal album that you all should have. End o' story.

LOOK BACK AND LAUGH

Look Back And Laugh 'S/T'

Oakland's Look Back And Laugh. Man, the fucking punk that has come outta the Bay Area in the past ten years is just overwhelming! Anyway, Look Back And Laugh are members/former members of Dead & Gone,Talk Is Poison,California Love,Yaphet Kotto and newer band Mindless Mutant. LBAL have a female singer that just shreds. Her voice and energy is so fucking powerful, moving and emotional.
This is their first album, theirs a second and a collection of 7"s. If ya ever get a chance to see them live, do so cause they put on a killer live show!!

Drive By...Shooting!

Henrietta Collins and the Wifebeating Childhaters 'Drive By Shooting' e.p.

Henry Rollins offshoot project before he started The Rollins Band. Recorded in 1986. I love this ep, it's sarcastic, fun, witty, cynical, and fuckin hilarious. They do a WIRE cover, Ex-Lion tamer, thats one of my fave songs Henry Rollins ever did, and maybe one of my fave songs ever! They also do a parody of the Queen song, 'We Will Rock You.'
Anyway, great little ep that makes me wish Henrietta Collins recorded more stuff!

FORWARDFORWARDFORWARDFORWARD

Forward 'Just Go Forward To Death'
Killer Burning Spirits Style Hardcore from Japan. Forward have quite a few albums and this one released in 2000. Amzing hardcore with members of Death Side, Insane Youth and Extinct Government!! Need i say more??

repriEVE

EVE 'Kyozou' CD-EP
When i bought this five song CD-EP, i bought it cause it was explained that it sounded like S.D.S.. At first listen i was disappointed, along with the bad cover art, i just wasnt sold and this ended up collecting dust. I recently played it again and saw it in a whole new light. This shit is amazing! Its crazy how much first impressions make on one. Anyway, im not sure about the SDS reference, maybe, maybe 'Digital Evil In Your Life'-era SDS, with a bit of Jap Noise ala Confuse or Tranquilizer and maybe throw some Tragedy into it. I dunno, this one is hard to explain but i def hear those bands influence in here. I do know that upon second listen i have discovered a raging noisy punk as fuck JapCore band! I dont think they have anything else out which is a shame as this shit really kills!!

Beauty? Watch this entire thing!

METAL MONDAY (pt. 2 cont.)

Assaulter 'Subservience' 7" e.p.

A while ago i posted Assaulter's first demo, which i fuckin love, and now i introduce their first 7", Subservience. Two songs of Blackened Australian Thrash Speed Metal! It's high time ya guys get into this amazing band cause im gonna post their full length soon! And if ya dig Destroyer 666, ya will dig this! Amazing stuff!!

Anyway...that concludes the second METAL MONDAY!! Tune in next week, same bat blog, same bat time!!???? (i know, i know, i'm reaching! HA!)

METAL MONDAY (pt. 2)

DarkThrone 'Soulside Journey'

Returning to Metal Mondays, we continue with DarkThrone's first and only Death Metal LP from way back in 1990. We all know that their first LP was Death Metal and their second, A Blaze In The Northern Sky, was their first Black Metal LP, a style they continue to play, though nowadays they add a little crust and a little Motorhead into the mix.

I'm definitely more into Black Metal than death Metal, in fact, there's really only a dozen or so Death Metal albums that i really like. DarkThrone's Soulside Journey is one of those, and i think its actually one of the best Death Metal albums ever recorded. By a Black Metal band at that!
Anyway, stay tuned for more metal and keep worshiping Satan!!

Say Hello To Mr Fist

Gehennah 'Hell Beer' Demo
It's a rainy Sunday Afternoon and i'm a grumpy little fucker today and Sweden's Gehennah are a fitting remedy. Mr. Violence, Rob Stringburner, Ronnie Ripper and HellCop always get me outta any funk i find myself in with their satanic antics. The 'Brilliant Loud Overlords of Destruction' play the thrashy Black Metal that Venom intended for the world, though a little more filthy and alot more drunk.
This is just a three song demo they put out in 95 in between their two best albums, Hardrocker and Kings of the Sidewalk. You know what your getting with song titles like these-Blood Metal, Brilliant Loud Overlords of Destruction and my fave, Say Hello To Mr. Fist. Oh, yeah!

Irish Metal

Cruachan 'Tuatha Na Gael'

Trust me! You crusties are going to love this band!!!

If anyone knew me around 95/96 they'd know how much i loved this album, i played this nonstop for a good solid year. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland they first recorded a demo in 92/93 then in 95 they recorded this, their first LP. The production isn't industry standard these days, which i like because it gives it sort of a punk feel. Folky Black Metal incorporated with flutes, tin whistles and mandolins that they play at breakneck speeds. In retrospect i don't know if i'd even call this Black Metal though that is what it's 'labeled'. Fuckin labels, right? I might say punky irish black metal, if, ya know, i was forced too. Fuckin blogs, right?

Anyway, i love this album and like i said i listened to it nonstop when it came out. They broke up a few years later only to get back together in 99? They have a new sound thats more mainstream with a female singer and not my favorite. Though on their 2002 album 'Folklore' they do two duets with the immortally great Shane MacGowan, the traditionals 'Ride On' and 'Spancill Hill'. Both amazing songs in their own right and i also think Shane produced that Lp too, could be wrong about that though.

A unique album that i think everyone who reads NO BEAST SO FIERCE would really dig.
Slainte
NBSF

Burning Portland

Burning Leather Demo
Burning Leather out of Portland, Oregon play dirty rock-n-roll, a bit punk, a bit metal, a bit Motorhead and thoroughly kick ass! Check out this resume- Members are in or have been in: Hellshock, Detestation, Defiance, Nux Vomica, Resist, Murder Disco X, Severed Head Of State, Splatterhouse, Fall of The Bastards, Deprived, Poison Idea, Atrocious Madness, and many more. Now if that doesn't sell ya i don't know what would.
One of the things i like about this band is that its different than any of the formentioned bands. It takes a new dirrection and i appreciate that, not many bands (or musicians) have the guts to stray from the safe path. Its not insanely different, just different for the members in said bands. So, high fives to Burning Leather! Hope ya dig this as much as i do.

Top Ten- Ten Things to Listen To While Your Politician Bashing #10

Extreme Noise Terror 'A Holocaust in Your Head'
ENT. Extreme Noise Terror. Two singers for a dual attack. Chainsaw guitars. Whirlwind, Brussel Sprouting, Grinding Holocaust Thunder and Lightning Drums. Punk gone crazy. When this band started they turned punk rock on its head. So fast, so loud, so manic. I think this and their first release are their best and most punk, but im digging this one especially right now as its more raw.
If Your Only In It For The Music (Then S.O.D. Off!!!!)

Alethes

Alethes 'Aletheia'

Alethes from Cascadia (Oregon, Washington) deliver a true masterpiece here with Aletheia. Dark acoustic reminiscent of Ulver's Kveldssanger LP with cello and violins. Dark, somber, beautiful, inspirational music invoking many emotions that all define this yet do it little justice. A lot of heart went into making this LP and i dont think many have it in them that can truely appreciate this.

Music for solitude as it's not exactly party tunes.
Members of Fauna, Waldteufel, L'Acephale.

Reek of Pretty Smelling Things

Carcass 'Reek Of Putrefaction'

Bach.
Mozart.
Beethoven.
Chopin.
Carcass.

Cry of the Sheeps

Paintbox 'Cry of the Sheeps' e.p.
Paintbox from Japan are one of the most unique bands in hardcore. A fusion of Burning Spirits style hardcore/Thrash and Jazz!??? That's not entirely true, but then again. They are fast as hell, the singers voice is definetly one of a kind and they do use horns esp. saxophone. Sounds like a turn off with the horns, huh? But its not, it's amazing and somehow through superb musicianship they manage to pull it off and it's still punk as anything else that comes outta Japan. The guitarist Chelsea was in the legendary DeathSide, so that adds definite merit. Paintbox are one of those bands that are punk, fun and tight if ya follow.
This is Paintbox's three song ep that came after the amazing EarthBall Sports Tournament Lp in 2001.
Chelsea died in August og 2007? (2008?) of a heart attack. One of punks most original guitarists will surely be missed!

Early 90's SoCal Crust Part Two

Confrontation Discography

The late 80's/early 90's was a great time for American Crust Punk. There were a few scattered bands in this city and that, but in the Southern California/L.A./Long Beach area their was a huge scene with quite a few insanely crusty bands. A//Solution, Glycine Max, Apocalypse, Body Count and Confrontation were at the core of this scene. They were all crusty as hell, stinky, drunk and played a bastard child of Peace Punk and StenchCore. Just how i like it.
Confrontation was just brutal fuckin smelly ass crust punk with just a nose, just a hint of grind and a wafting aroma of Death Metal! This is all their stuff minus their demo (I believe).

I will soon post more from this scene as i absolutely love it all and have most of the recorded stuff from then.

Terminal Filth StenchCore

Deviated Instinct 'Terminal Filth StenchCore' Demo
The mighty Deviated Instinct's second demo and first demo with their newer more metal sound ala crusty sound ala stenchcore ala fucking awesome sound that was found on the Welcome to The Orgy e.p.
The songs on here were later put on a compilation of sorts called Re-Opening Old Wounds from Desperate Attempt Records outta Louisville, Kentucky. Like I said in a previous post I like later Deviated Instinct more than i like the Welcome to the Orgy/Rock-n-Roll Conformity era, but that isnt to say that i dont love this era, i do. Fucking Punk as Nails! And changed punk as we know it!

Digging In Water

Digging In Water Comp

Great comp from the UK from 89? I originally had the record, which i no longer own as i was stolen, and i think it was on Children of The Revolution recs. The CD i have is titled 'Hardcore' and its on Weasel records, a repress.
Anyway, great comp where 3/4 of the bands fuckin kill it, the rest, a'ight. Stand outs for me are CCM, Vicious Circle, ENT, The Stupids, Electro Hippies and a few more that i'll let you decide on.
On an unrelated note, i recently put up a header that said something to the effect of 'im gonna quit doing this if i dont start getting comments from ya'. Now, i dont really mean that. Im not gonna quit on account of you and i'm not complaining, i'm just trying to get ya'll motivated to comment. A fellow blogger told me, me or less, that i was going about it the wrong way. Hence, this. I do hope you guys keep coming back to this blog. I'm having fun with it and hope you guys are too.
